Two of the things I am very passionate about are real estate and writing. I look at blogging as a great avenue to express both of these passions.
I began my Real estate career in 1994 and have enjoyed it from day one. I left residential real estate for a number of years to strictly focus on doing commercial transactions. I did this because as a single father I found it very difficult to handle the hours required in the residential world. Although I missed selling homes, I found that the schedule of strictly doing commercial real estate great for focusing on my family obligations. Now that my children have grown and are quite self sufficient, I was excited to jump back into the world of residential real estate in 2009.
Being back in residential I have noticed a lot of changes in the industry. Some good, and unfortunately some not so good. Many of my postings on my blog will revolve around this topic. I will highlight many of the great things technology has brought to my industry and how a home seller or buyer should take advantage of that. On the flip side, I see a lot of gimmicks and tricks that are now prevalent in the real estate industry. I will write about some of those, and how to avoid those pitfalls.
You may not agree with all my views and insights about real estate. That’s ok. Please let me know. Good, bad or indifferent, I ask that you comment on my posts and let me know what you think.
One of the best things I think technology affords people today is allowing us to make informed decisions. Real estate is no different in that regard. The days of calling up an agent and seeing if they are the right fit for you are over. Blogs and Social Media allow you to get to know quite a bit about a Realtor long before you need their services. Today’s technology allows the consumer to get a “feel” for what a particular agent is all about, how they operate their business, and most importantly, what they will do to get the job done for you. I realize that what I write and discuss may not resonate with everyone. That’s not a bad thing from my perspective. There are a lot of agents out there to choose from. I am looking for clients who read what I have to say and think “ya…..that makes sense!” This is a much better system than in years gone by. It used to be that you would sit down with an agent and have an hour or two to get to know them and decide in that limited time whether you wished to use their services for one of the largest decisions you will be making in your life.
